Author guidelines

How to prepare a manuscript for any of the seven Aaranya Scholarly journals.

These guidelines apply to all seven Aaranya Scholarly journals; only the reference style differs by journal. When you are ready, submit your manuscript. Questions: info@aaranyascholarly.com.

Checklist before you submit

There is no fee to submit. Read the editorial policies too: authorship, ethics, AI use and conflicts of interest.

Article types and lengths

Word counts are for the main text: they exclude the title, abstract, references, tables and figure captions.

Article typeMain textAbstractNotes
Original Research Articleup to 8,000 words250 words, structuredIntroduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion
Review Articleup to 10,000 words250 wordsA critical synthesis, not a list of papers

Short Communicationup to 3,000 words150 wordsAt most 3 figures or tables
Case Reportup to 2,500 words150 wordsFollow the CARE guidelines; patient consent required
Technical Note / Protocolup to 4,000 words150 wordsEnough detail for others to reproduce the method
Data Paperup to 4,000 words150 wordsThe dataset must be in a public repository, with its DOI or link
Editorial / Perspectiveup to 2,500 wordsnone requiredUsually invited; may be accepted without external review
Letter to the Editorup to 1,000 wordsnoneComment on a published article, within 3 months of its publication

A structured abstract has the headings Background, Methods, Results and Conclusions (or Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusions). The abstract must stand on its own: no references and no undefined abbreviations. Give 3–6 keywords for indexing.

Editors may accept a longer manuscript when the content needs it; say why in your cover letter.

Anonymising your manuscript

Review is double-anonymous: reviewers must not be able to tell who wrote the paper. Your names, affiliations and email addresses go in the submission form, not in the manuscript. We remove hidden information from the file (document properties, comments, tracked-change authors) before reviewers see it, but we never alter the text, and the editor will return a manuscript that still identifies its authors.

Writing the manuscript

Language. Clear, concise English. British or American spelling are both fine, but not a mixture. If English is not your first language, have the manuscript checked before submitting: reviewers judge what they can understand.

A research article usually follows this order (other article types adapt it):

Studies should follow the reporting guideline for their design where one exists: CONSORT for randomised trials, STROBE for observational studies, PRISMA for systematic reviews, CARE for case reports, ARRIVE for animal research. You can find them at the EQUATOR Network.

Formatting for typesetting

Accepted manuscripts are laid out from your Word file into the journal PDF and web versions, so a well-structured file means fewer proof corrections.

References

Each journal uses the style common in its field. Give a DOI for every reference that has one. Cite only work you have read; avoid excessive self-citation.

Declarations and the submission form

These go in the submission form, not in the anonymised manuscript:

The cover letter should say what the work adds, confirm that all authors approved the submission, and give the acknowledgements, funding and data availability statement that were left out of the anonymised file.
